In this role, you will be instrumental in architecting and maintaining a diverse portfolio of WordPress-based websites, many of which attract substantial traffic and serve critical roles in our ecosystem.
This position offers the opportunity to work remotely with a forward-thinking engineering team. You will engage closely with cross-functional collaborators from both the product and engineering departments, providing expertise in technical architecture, plugin and theme development, and site optimization.

Your Responsibilities
As a Senior WordPress Developer, your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Designing, building, and maintaining WordPress websites with an emphasis on performance, speed, scalability, and security.
- Developing custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch, following modern coding standards and industry best practices to ensure maintainability and flexibility.
- Optimizing front-end code for fast load times and a seamless user experience, ensuring alignment with Core Web Vitals and other performance benchmarks.
- Applying advanced SEO principles, including schema markup, meta structuring, and other enhancements to improve site visibility and search engine ranking.
- Writing clean, well-structured, and fully documented code in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, with a proactive attitude toward keeping codebases efficient and modern.
- Collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to transform product requirements into functional, reliable digital experiences.
- Participating in Git-based development workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews, to maintain high code quality and team alignment.
- Diagnosing and resolving complex issues across different environments, including staging and production, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid problem resolution.
- Working with our DevOps and hosting teams to implement and manage caching strategies, CDN setups, deployment pipelines, and backup routines.
- Staying current with the evolving WordPress ecosystem, including updates to the block editor (Gutenberg), major plugins, security standards, and new development paradigms.
- Creating and managing third-party integrations, including APIs and other tools, to extend website functionality and improve automation.
Ideal Candidate Profile
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
- 4+ years of experience as a professional web developer, with a demonstrated focus on WordPress-based development.
- In-depth understanding of WordPress architecture, including core functions, theme hierarchy, plugin architecture, hooks, and the REST API.
- Experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins, tailored to project requirements and optimized for scalability and long-term maintenance.
- Strong proficiency in backend and frontend technologies, including PHP, JavaScript (vanilla and ES6+), HTML5, CSS3 (including preprocessors like SASS/SCSS), and MySQL.
- Knowledge of modern performance optimization techniques, including lazy loading, server-side and client-side caching, CDN integration, and database optimization.
- Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) strategies and tools, and a deep understanding of how technical SEO affects ranking.
- Experience with responsive design, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Confidence working in version-controlled environments (Git) and using tools such as GitHub or GitLab for collaboration.
- A self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage your own priorities, and meet deadlines without micromanagement.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a strong collaborative mindset when working across teams.
